What is MiniPedia?

MiniPedia is a heavily modified version of TiddlyWiki that tries to resemble MediaWiki (the software that runs Wikipedia) as much as possible. TiddlyWiki is a single file, self-contained wiki for managing micro-content, written in JavaScript. It is:

  • A single file: a complete wiki in a self contained html file
  • Only 516 KB in size! (Including sample articles)
  • Easy portable: only 1 file to take with you, forget tedious databases
  • Non-linear: order and use information the way you want to.
  • A wiki: index, view, tag and edit multiple articles
  • Cross-Browser Compatible: works on all major browsers
  • Platform independent: works on any OS supporting one of the major browsers
  • A MediaWiki look-a-like: it’s like having a personal wikipedia in your pocket
  • Customizable: utilizes the strength and plugins of the TiddlyWiki community

*Require special instructions to allow the MiniPedia to save changes. Please see the “about” page in MiniPedia for more details. Also, MiniPedia uses images that base64 encoded within the html file. Not all browsers support this behavior. MiniPedia itself will still be fully functional without the images.

Instructions

Right click on the download link and choose “Save Link As…”. Save the html file to any location you want and double click it. You’ll be presented with MiniPedia’s main interface. Be sure to check out the “about” page if you run into save issues.
